2、 use new tools and techniques.”“我们的理念是:设计不要过度传达,自始至终都要概念清晰,并以创新的方式包括运用新技术和新工具来诠释概念。”Over the years,the DFA Awards have been dedicated to recognizing outstanding designs for Asia,with many of the winners being outstanding Asian designers.However,one of the Grand Award-winning works of DFA 2022,the vi
3、sual identity of Hong Kong M+Museum,was created by a world-renowned western design studio thonik in the Netherlands.thonik,which specializes in visual communication,graphic identity,interaction and motion design,was founded in Amsterdam in 1993 by the famous designers Thomas Widdershoven and Nikki G
4、onnissen.The two are both pioneers in the international graphic design community.Thomas has taught at the Design Academy Eindhoven and other colleges,and Nikki has served as president of AGI.Under their leadership,thonik have worked on a large number of visual identity projects for public institutio
5、ns.For example,the“three crosses”city logo of Amsterdam is one of their iconic works.Besides,they have also created visual identities for Dutch Design Week,Holland Festival and VPRO.At the same time,thoniks vision and creativity have expanded far beyond the Netherlands,as their visual designs for th
6、e Power Station of Art in Shanghai and the Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture in Shenzhen have not only connected the important institutions in the public domain with a new,younger and more diverse audience,but also brought the studio a broader international reach.With a unique and straightforward st
7、yle,thoniks work is immediately recognizable for its simple graphics,bright color blocks and special fonts and typography.Nevertheless,compared with the style,thonik believes what really matters in the creative process is the concept.“A clear starting point or concept is always at the basis of every
8、thing we do.At the same time,we translate the idea in an innovative way and use new tools and techniques.”They have been practicing what they said.Over the past 30 years,thonik have been actively embracing changes and exploring new technologies,including establishing a Motion Lab at an early time to
9、 investigate new media and tools for design communication.In addition,Thomas and Nikki have co-published the monograph Why We Design in 2019 and held an exhibition under the same title in the Power Station of Art in Shanghai,which attracted a record-breaking 150,000 visitors.In 2021,thonik moved int
10、o their self-designed and built studio.So,whats the design concept of their DFA Grand Award-winning work?What kind of“concept”do they think can bring a successful design?Can the results from the experiments in thoniks“Motion Lab”be applied to real projects?What were Nikki Gonnissens main initiatives
11、 under her presidency of AGI?With these questions in mind,Package&Design conducted an exclusive interview with Thomas Widdershoven and Nikki Gonnissen,Co-Founders of thonik,and selected some of the classic works from the studio to share with our readers.多年来,“DFA亚洲最具影响力设计奖”一直致力于表彰为亚洲创作的杰出设计,获奖者多为亚洲杰出
12、设计师。但在2022年DFA亚洲最具影响力设计奖最高奖大奖的获奖作品中,有一件作品却完全由西方设计师打造,这件作品就是由全球知名的荷兰设计工作室thonik为香港M+博物馆创作的视觉形象。thonik工作室专注于视觉传达、图形识别、互动和动态设计,由著名设计师Thomas Widdershoven和Nikki Gonnissen夫妇于1993年成立于荷兰阿姆斯特丹。Thomas和Nikki均为国际平面设计界的先锋人物,Thomas曾在埃因霍温设计学院等高校任教,Nikki则曾担任国际平面设计师联盟(AGI)主席。在两人的领导下,thonik为众多公共机构尤其是艺术及文化机构打造了独特的视觉形象
13、,如遍布荷兰首都阿姆斯特丹的“三个叉”城市标志,就出自他们之手;此外他们还为荷兰设计周、荷兰艺术节、荷兰公共广播公司VPRO等机构打造了视觉形象,鲜明的风格和出色的设计让thonik被称为阿姆斯特丹的“一张视觉名片”。与此同时,thonik的视野和创作已超越荷兰本土,他们为中国香港M+博物馆、上海当代艺术博物馆、深港城市建筑双城双年展等打造的视觉设计,不仅把更多重要公共机构带进年轻且多元的受众之中,亦为自身带来了更广泛的国际影响力。纵观thonik的作品,可见其以简洁的图形、明亮的色块和字体与排版见长,风格独特而直接。但相较于风格,thonik认为在创作过程中真正重要的是概念,而且“自始至终都
14、要概念清晰,并以创新的方式包括运用新技术和新工具来诠释概念”。thonik如是说,也如是做。在30年的发展历程中,thonik一直积极拥抱变化,不断探索新的技术,很早就成立了动态实验室(Motion Lab),研究如何以新媒介和新工具进行设计表达。此外,Thomas和Nikki还积极反思自己的设计工作,于2019年联合出版了专著设计为何(Why We Design),并在上海当代艺术博物馆举办了同名展览,吸引了破纪录的15万名观众。2021年,thonik搬进了自行设计的全新办公大楼。那么,此次获DFA大奖的M+博物馆视觉形象的设计理念是怎样的?是什么让这家设计工作室30年来始终保持竞争力?他
