3、The 11th Production Plant,Changqing Oilfield of CNPC,Qingyang,Gansu 745002,China)Abstract:To enhance oil recovery in low-permeability reservoirs through the injection of low-mineralized water,the foaming behavior,surface tension and interfacial tension of a series of ethoxylated sulfosuccinate surfa
4、ctants(C12EO6-CnMS,n=10,12,14 and 16)were investigated.The interfacial properties of mixtures of C12EO6-CnMS and a betaine surfactant were also studied,and the minimum alkane carbon number(Nmin)of the mixed system was obtained.The experimental results showed that C12EO6-CnMS exhibited low-foaming pr
5、operties.The critical micelle concentration(cmc)of the surfactants decreased when the carbon chain length of the fatty alcohol(n)attached to ester group was increased.The addition of inorganic salts could reduce the cmc of C12EO6-CnMS,and the more inorganic salt,the more reduction of cmc.The mixed s
6、ystem of C12EO6-C10MS(in which the fatty alcohol carbon chain length was C10)and the betaine surfactant C16ZC displayed synergistic effect,exhibiting smaller cmc.The interfacial tension(IFT)between C12EO6-CnMS and n-alkanes increased as the carbon chain length(n)of the surfactants increased.The scan
7、ning of IFT values between C12EO6-CnMS and a series of n-alkanes was operated to determine the minimum alkane carbon number(Nmin)for the surfactant.Notably,the Nmin value increased with the addition of inorganic salts.In the presence of 0.5%-1%NaCl,the Nmin values for C12EO6-C10MS and C12EO6-C12MS a
8、re 12-14.As for surfactant mixtures,in the presence of 0.5%-1%NaCl,when the molar ratios of C12EO6-C10MS to C16ZC are 4/1,3/2 and 2/3,the mixtures exhibited synergistic effect in reducing interfacial tension,achieving ultra-low to low IFT values(10-3-10-2 mN/m)against dodecane,tetradecane and cetane

11、enhanced oil recovery(EOR)1.Among these techniques,surfactant flooding is a commonly used method in EOR.It involves injecting water and surfactants to create an oil-in-water emulsion,improve wettability,and reduce interfacial tension(IFT)between oil and formation water to mobilize the residual oil 2
12、.However,the limitations such as weak heat-resistance,poor salt-resistance,and suboptimal interfacial activity in low-salinity oil reservoirs,as well as the high cost,have restricted the application of surfactants to specific oil reservoirs.In recent years,researchers have found that nonionic-anioni
13、c surfactants,which incorporate both ethylene oxide(EO)and anionic groups(e.g.,sulfonate(-SO3-)group),provide a combination of advantages of both nonionic and anionic surfactants.Compared with sulfonate and carboxylate surfactants,nonionic-anionic surfactants exhibit better salt resistance,temperatu
14、re resistance,and better compatibility with other surfactants.By adjusting the molecular structure of nonionic-anionic surfactants,the hydrophilic and lipophilic properties can be easily modified to suit specific reservoir conditions 3,4.Hua et al 5 have incorporated ethylene oxide(EO)units into sod
15、ium dihexyl sulfosuccinate to enhance its dispersing and emulsifying abilities.In recent years,further investigations on the di-esterified products among fatty alcohol ether sulfonates have revealed that altering the number of EO units and the carbon atom connected to the ester group can greatly enh
16、ance the physicochemical properties of these sulfonates 6-10.Zwitterionic surfactants consist of both a positively charged hydrophilic group and a negatively charged hydrophilic group within the molecule.Zwitterionic surfactants have gained attention in EOR due to their excellent water solubility,re
17、markable interfacial properties,insensitivities to temperature or salinity,and synergistic effects when combined with other types of surfactants 11,12.Numerous studies have reported that the combination of zwitterionic surfactants and anionic surfactants shows good compatibility and synergistic effe
18、ct in the enhancement of surface activity and interface activity due to the attraction between the negatively charged headgroup of anionic surfactants and the positively charged quaternary ammonium group of zwitterionic surfactants 13-15.Owing to the anionic group of nonionic-anionic surfactants,the
