Step 1. Pre-reading
Before class, the teacher will guide the students to make good preparations for the lesson as follows.
A: Try to learn the Chinese meanings of the words with the help of a dictionary and remember them:

B: Group work
Before the class, the students are divided into three groups to search for some interesting information on the Internet.
Group1 is asked to search for some proverbs about dream on the Internet.
Group 2 is asked to find some videos(such as songs, movies, speech )
Group 3 is asked to have a speech about “Dream” by themselves.
Students will share what they have prepared for the lessons in groups and have a competition, the teacher will choose the best group.

Step2 Lead-in
1)Show a video clip about a student’s speech to students and ask them to think about the question:
What ‘s the theme of the video?

Ladies and Gentlemen,
It’s my honor to be here. It’s long been my dream to make a speech in English. And now I made it. What I am going to share with you is “Always have a dream”. You should be a dreamer yourself. If you don’t have a dream, a plan or a wish, how can you know where you’re going. Maybe some of your dreams are unrealistic. But as long as you work hard, your dreams can come true some day. Dreams on one hand are not expensive. They don’t cost you any money. Even the poorest person in the world can have dreams. On the other hand, they are expensive for we have to work terribly hard to make our dreams come true. Always have a dream. My friends, if you dream it we can do it.
Never stop chasing dreams. You are the next miracle.
Step2 Presentation of self-study
Before the class, the students are divided into three groups to search for some interesting information on the Internet.
Group1 is asked to search for some proverbs about dream on the Internet. Group 2 is asked to find some videos(such as songs, movies, speech )
Group 3 is asked to have a speech about “Dream” by themselves.
Students will share what they have prepared for the lessons in groups and have a competition, the teacher will choose the best group.

Step3 Read and learn “A boy’s dream”
1) Skimming: (one student will read the passage while reading)
Skim the passage of A Boy’s Dream, try to find the answers to the questions:
Why do people often forget their dreams in the childhood?

2) Scanning :
Read the passage carefully again, finish the exercises ---“Comprehension”

Ss discuss and try to get the answers to the following three exercises.

Step6 Discussion
Everyone has a dream, and everyone wants to achieve his dream, but how can we make our dreams come true? Ask the students to give some effective advice as quickly as possible. (学生抢答)
( Rules : After the teacher says “ready ,go”, students should put up their hands as fast as possible and say out the effective advice aloud, the rest can’t say the sentence with the same meaning, or their group will lose one point. )

Step7 Pair work
Ask the students to make a hand-copied newspaper themed “Dream” with partners, they can use the information they have searched on the Internet.

One of the students show the hand-copied newspaper and describe it to the whole class.

All of this happened because of my dreams, even though other people told me that those dreams were bogus and they were crazy, but I held onto my dreams.
And people would always say, no matter what, even in bodybuilding they said I would never make it.
And later on in the movies, in Hollywood they said I would not make it. They said, "You will never make it. You have a German accent. No one in Hollywood has ever made it with a German accent. Yeah, maybe you can play some Nazi roles or something like that, but you, cannot become a leading star with an accent. Plus your body, you're overdeveloped you have all these muscles. They did Hercules movies 20 years ago, that's outdated. Now it's Woody Allen. Woody Allen is in, his body is in it. "And those messages." And Al Pacino, the skinny guy, he is in. But not your body, it's too big. And your name, Schwarzenegger, it will never fit on a movie poster. Forget it. Forget it, you will never make it. Go back to bodybuilding. "
Well, the rest is history. After Terminator I（终结者） became, the highest paid movie star in Hollywood. And let me tell you something, it continued on. Even when I ran for governor people said, "Arnold, you will never become governor of California. What do you know about government?" Well, the fact is, I knew exactly as much about government as the rest of the people knew in California, which is that government out of sync with （与…脱离）the people, and it needed a shakeup. So I didn't listen to all those people that said I would never make it. I continued campaigning, I listened to my dreams, and the rest also is history. I became governor.
So always it just carried me on, those dreams. So bodybuilding gave me the confidence, movies gave me the money, and pubic service and being a governor gave me a purpose larger than myself. And that is the brief story of my dreams and a brief story of my early life, and how my dreams made me successful.

A boy’s dream
It had been a long time since I thought about my dreams. I had so many of them when I was a child. My family called me a dreamer— and indeed I was. However, as I grew older, my childhood dreams gradually became a distant memory. Maybe we are all so busy with day-to-day matters that we forget the dreams we once had.

I was in Manchester a few weeks ago and I visited the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI). As I walked into the museum, I felt excited. My mind was immediately transported back to the days when my only concerns were how to get my homework done and what was for lunch. The childhood dreams had come back. It was an amazing feeling, one that sent strong feelings of happiness right to my heart, and for several hours, I was a kid again. What gave me this feeling?

The Museum of Science and Industry was the perfect catalyst. The history of different kinds of cars was shown in a building ,while another part had a collection of planes and helicopters. As I walked around, a dozen memories came into my mind, my childhood dream to become a pilot, my model plane collections, and sitting in the aircraft with my dad.
As a boy, I designed airports for my planes; I was interested in drawing maps of imaginary cities; I found roller-coasters so interesting. So I built roller-coasters made of boxes; I put little engines in little wooden boats. This was what my dreams were filed with and how I brought them into life. I ‘ d forgotten all this until my visit to the MOSI.
If you’re in Manchester, make sure you visit the MOSI. The kids will love it, too.
