    资源描述:
阅读理解专题卷23 It is often necessary to release a fish, that is , set it free after catching, because it is too small, or you just don’t want to take it home to eat. In some cases, releasing fish is a good measure that will help keep fish variety and build their population size. The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) encourages fishermen who practice catch-and-release fishing to use a few simple skills when doing so. The advice provided below will help make sure that the fish you release will survive to bite again another day. —When catching a fish, play it quickly and keep the fish in the water as much as possible. Don’t’ use a net in landing the fish and release it quickly to prevent it from dying. —Hold the fish gently. Do not put your fingers in its eyes. Don’t wipe the scales (鱼鳞) off the fish because it might cause it to develop a disease and reduce its chance of survival. —Remove your hook quickly. If the hook is too deep or hooked in the stomach, cut the line and leave the hook in. The hook left inside will cause no serious problem to the fish. —Take good care of the fish by moving it gently in water. Release the fish when it begins to struggle and is able to swim. —Do not hold fish in a bucket or some other containers and later decide to release it. If you are going to release a fish, do so right away. With a little care and by following the suggestions given above, you can give the released fish a better chance of survival. 1.People sometimes set a fish free after catching it because they _________ A. don’t want it to die B. hope it will grow quickly C. don’t want to have it as food D. want to practice their fishing skills 2.Which of the following will probably make a fish ill? On the night of November 14, 1978,a six-year-old Korean boy was flying to the United States. All he knew was that he was on a plane heading for somewhere. The plane landed at Kennedy International Airport, where he was greeted by a family. This young boy was me. I have grown up in a town where there were few Asians, so I stuck out in the crowd. I made friends quickly and they treated me just like anyone else. You may ask if anyone made fun of my appearance. Well, of course, I met that' kind of person. I just shrugged it off. As an adopted child, I have something that others don't have. I have had the benefit of two families. I'm lucky to have got a chance to start a new life. But we must try never to forget our past. Someday I will go back to Korea to find out what kind of culture I left behind. There is only one thing that I regret about being adopted. When I argue with my parents and they realize they are losing the argument, they sometimes wonder what I would be doing if I were back in Korea. I don't understand this because I thought the purpose of adopting someone was to give them a better chance of growing up in a family. Some day when I am older, I want to adopt a girl and raise her the way my parents have raised me, but I would do it better, for I know what went well and what did not. 5.We learn that when the writer was on the way to his new family,______. A. he was with his own parents B. he was very happy and excited C. he was about ten years old then D. he didn't know he was going to be adopted 6.If someone sticks out in the crowd, it means that he/she_______. A. is very good-looking B. is very kind-hearted C. is easily noticed by others D. is disliked by others 7.When the writer was made fun of by others, he _______. A. was deeply hurt B. wanted to go back to Korea C. didn’t care about it that much D. tried to make friends with them 8.What can we learn from Paragraph 3? A. The writer wants to forget his past. B. The writer isn't sad about being adopted. C. The writer isn't interested in Korean culture. D. The writer aren't know anything about Korea. 9.What does the writer want to do when he is older? A. Go back to live with his parents in Korea. B. Tell his parents what they have done wrong. C. Find out how to raise children in a better way. D. Adopt a girl and raise her in a good way. J.K.Rowling,author of the Harry Potter book series, began writing at the age of 6.In her biography, she remembers with great fondness when her good friend Sean, whom she met in secondary school, became the first person to encourage her and help build the confidence that one day she would be a very good writer “He was the first person with whom I really discussed my serious ambition to be a writer. He was also the only person who thought I was bound to be a success at it,which meant much more to me than I ever told him at the time.” Despite many setbacks,Rowling persevered in her writing, particularly fantasy stories. But it wasn’t until 1990 that she first conceived the idea about Harry Potter. As she recalls,it was on a long train journey from London to Manchester that the idea of Harry Potter simply fell into her head.“To my immense frustration (懊丧),I didn’t have a functioning pen with me,and I was too shy to ask anybody if I could borrow one.I think, now, that this was probably a good thing, because I simply sat and thought, for four (delayed train) hours, and all the details bubbled up in my brain, and this scrawny, blackhaired, bespectacled (戴眼镜的) boy who didn’t know he was a wizard became more and more real to me.” That same year, her mother passed away after a tenyear battle with multiple sclerosis, which deeply affected her writing. She went on to marry and had a daughter, but separated from her husband shortly afterwards. During this time,Rowling was diagnosed with clinical depression.Unemployed, she completed her first novel in area cafes, where she could get her daughter to fall asleep. After being rejected by 12 publishing houses, the first Harry Potter novel was sold to a small British publishing house. Now with seven books that have sold nearly 400 million copies in 64 languages,J.K.Rowling is the highest earning novelist in history. And it all began with her commitment to writing that was fostered by the confidence of a friend! 14.Who believed J.K.Rowling was to be a good writer? A.Her friend Sean. B.Her mother. C.Her daughter. D.Her husband. 15.Rowling first came up with the idea about Harry Potter________. A.openminded B.warmhearted C.goodnatured D.strongwilled 18.The text mainly tells us________. A.hardship makes a good novelist B.the courage to try is a special ability C.you can have a wonderful idea everywhere D.encouragement contributes to one’s success Violin prodigies (神童), I learned, have come in distinct waves from distinct regions. Most of the great performers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries were born and brought up in Russia and Eastern Europe. I asked Isaac Stern, one of the world’s greatest violinists the reason for this phenomenon. “It is very clear,” he told me. “They were all Jews and Jews at the time were severely oppressed and ill-treated in that part of the world. They were not allowed into the professional fields, but they were allowed to achieve excellence on a concert stage.” As a result, every Jewish parent’s dream was to have a child in the music school because it was a passport to the West. Another element in the emergence of prodigies, I found, is a society that values excellence in a certain field to nurture (培育) talent. Nowadays, the most nurturing societies seem to be in the Far East. “In Japan, a most competitive society, with stronger discipline than ours,” says Isaac Stern, children are ready to test their limits every day in many fields, including music. When Western music came to Japan after World War II, that music not only became part of their daily lives, but it became a discipline as well. The Koreans and Chinese as we know, are just as highly motivated as the Japanese. That’s a good thing, because even prodigies must work hard. Next to hard work, biological inheritance(遗传) plays an important role in the making of a prodigy. J. S. Bach, for example, was the top of several generations of musicians, and four of his sons had significant careers in music. 19. Jewish parents in Eastern Europe longed for their children to attend music school because ________. A. it would allow them access to a better life in the West B. Jewish children are born with excellent musical talent C. they wanted their children to enter into the professional field D. it would enable the family to get better treatment in their own country 20. Nurturing societies as mentioned in the passage refer to societies that ________. A. are highly motivated in the education of music B. treasure talent and provide opportunities for its full development C. encourage people to compete with each other D. promise talented children high positions 21. Which of the following contributes to the emergence of musical prodigies according to the passage? A. a natural gift. B. extensive knowledge of music. C. very early training. D. a prejudice-free society. 22. Which of the following titles best summarizes the main idea of the passage? A. Jewish Contribution to Music B. Training of Musicians in the World C. Music and Society D. The Making of Music Prodigies When the Farnsworth family moved to their new farm in 1919, eleven-year-old Philo was surprised to find it wired for electricity. This unusual circumstance contributed to his fate — to become an important inventor of the twentieth century. By thirteen, Farnsworth had become a self-taught electrical engineer. He was able to fix the farm’s generator(发电机)when none of the adults could. In 1922, he read an article about a new idea of John Baird, a Scottish scientist, who had been working with the cathode ray tube (阴极射线管) for the transmission of electronic pictures and wanted to attempt it himself. Farnsworth studied everything he could find on the subject. Although many older engineers with money backers were already developing television, Farnsworth made a bold decision — he was going to perfect a working model of it before anybody else. In college, Farnsworth continued his research with cathode ray and vacuum tubes, but the death of his father, the only money maker in the family, forced him to give up this research and find a job. His first job was for George Everson, with whom Farnsworth discussed his dream of television. While acknowledging the achievements of those who came before, Farnsworth thought that he could get closer. Everson agreed to risk $6,000 for the research. Backers came in 1927 to see the first American television, one year after Baird’s. They were astonished to see the image of a single white line resolve itself on the screen before them, and agreed that this new invention was worth putting money into. In 1930, Farnsworth won a patent (专利权) for his all-electro
