河南省2020中考英语新题型组合卷 一、阅读理解(20小题,每小题2分,共40分) 阅读下面四篇语言材料,然后按文后要求做题。 A When the great library of Alexandria burned, as the story goes, one book was saved. Then a man bought it. The book wasn't very interesting, but between its pages there was something very interesting indeed. It was a small piece of vellum (羊皮纸) on which was written the secret of the "Touchstone"! The touchstone was a small pebble (鹅卵石) that could turn any common metal (金属) into gold. The writing explained that it was lying among thousands and thousands of other pebbles that looked exactly like it. But the secret was this: The real stone would feel warm, while common ones were cold. So the man sold his belongings, camped on the beach, and began testing pebbles. He knew that if he picked up cold pebbles and threw them down again, he might pick up the same pebble hundreds of times. So, when he felt one that was cold, he threw it into the sea. He spent a whole day doing this but none of them was the touchstone. Yet he went on and on this way. Pick up a pebble. Cold — throw it into the sea. Pick up another. Throw it into the sea. The days continued into weeks and the weeks into months. One day, however, he picked up a pebble and it was warm. He threw it into the sea before he realized what he had done. He had formed such a strong habit of throwing each pebble into the sea that when the one he wanted came along, he still threw it away. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 ( ) 1.How did the man know the secret of the touchstone? And this may help to solve the problem with the waste caused by plastic bags. Each year, countless plastic bags are used around the world. They discovered this by accident, Bertocchini, a researcher and also a beekeeper, explains. She says the plastic bags holding the wax worms were riddled with small holes. In other words, the bags had holes all over them when the worms were inside. She says she made the chance discovery after taking away the worms from beehives where they lived. She put the worms in a plastic shopping bag, which became full of holes later. After the discovery, Bertocchini carried out timed experiments (实验) on the worms. When 100 worms were placed in a normal British plastic shopping bag, the holes began to appear in just 40 minutes. After 12 hours, she saw much of the plastic bag had disappeared. Plastic is not the natural food for the wax worms. But the researchers say that since they lay their eggs in beehives, the worms feed on beeswax. “Wax is a kind of ‘natural plastic’,” Bertocchini says. Researchers say they still need to better understand how wax is digested (消化) in the worm. Finding that out could help solve the problem with plastic waste. Bertocchini says they are planning to use this research to find a way to cut plastic waste. She says they are working to save our oceans, rivers and all the environment from plastic waste. But, she adds, “We should not throw plastic bags into the environment, just because we now know how to deal with them.” 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 ( ) 6.What is Bertocchini’s discovery? A.
