These men were going to die very soon, and if they were killed in a balloon, it would be the same thing for them. But a man of the King’s court, Pilatre de Rozier, felt that it would be a great honour to be the first man to fly. He didn’t think that this honour should be given to two prisoners. He wanted it for himself and he begged the king to change his mind. The king at last agreed. On November 21, 1783, de Rozier and one of his friends went up in a hot-air balloon and traveled five miles. The balloon carried its own fire under it, but the two men came down safely. This was the beginning, and the road to better things was long and hard . 56. According to this passage, the first men flying in the air were _____. A. two prisoners B. the king C. The two prisoners were killed in the balloon. C. Pilatre de Rozier was an official(官员). D. King Louis the Sixteenth was cruel. 60. Which of the following best express what the writer wrote at the end of the passage? A. All good things come to an end. B. Better late than never. C. Never do things by halves. D. Rome was not built in a day. B 40 years ago the idea of disabled people doing sport was never heard of. But when the yearly games for the disabled were started at Stoke Mandeville, England in 1948 by Sir Ludwig Guttmann, the situation began to change. Sir Ludwig Guttmann, who had been driven to England in 1939 from Nazi Germany, had been asked by the British government to set up an injuries center at Stoke Mandeville Hospital near London. His ideas about treating injuries included sport for the disabled. In the first games just two teams of injured soldiers took part. The next year, 1949, five teams took part. From those beginnings, things have developed fast. Teams now come from abroad to Stoke Mandeville every year. In 1960 the first Olympics for the Disabled were held in Rome, in the same place as the normal Olympic Games. Now, every four years the Olympic Games for the Disabled are held, if possible, in the same place as the normal Olympic Games, although they are organized separately. In other years Games for the Disabled are still held at Stoke Mandeville. In the1984 wheelchair Olympic Games, 1064 wheelchair athletes from about 40 countries took part. Unfortunately, they were held at Stoke Mandeville and not in Los Angeles, along with the other Olympics. The Games have been a great success in helping the progress of international friendship and understanding, and in proving that being disabled does not mean you can’t enjoy sport. One small source (来源) of disappointment for those who organize and take part in the games, however, has been the unwillingness of the International Olympic Committee (委员会) to include disabled events at the Olympic Games for the able-bodied. Perhaps a few more years are still needed to persuade those fortunate enough not to be disabled to understand that their disabled fellow athletes should be included. 61. The first games for the disabled were held ______ after Sir Ludwig Guttmann arrived in England. A. 40 years B. 21 years C. 10 years D. 9 years 62. According to the passage, how many teams took part in the games in 1948? A. one team B. two teams C. three teams D. four teams 63. Besides Stoke Mandeville, surely the games for the disabled were once held in _______. A. New York B. London C. Rome D. Los Angeles 64. This text tells us that Sir Ludwig Guttmann _________. A. is an early organizer of the games for the able-bodied B. is welcomed by the British government C. is an injured soldier D. is from England 65. From the text, we may know that the writer is ________. A. one of the organizers of the games for the disabled B. a disabled person who once took part in the games C. against holding the games for the disabled D. in support of holding the games for the disabled C When I opened the first “Body shop” in 1976, what I wanted to do was to earn enough money to feed my children. Today “The Body Shop” is a great company growing fast all around the world. In the years since we began, I have learned a lot. Much of what I have learned will be found in this book, because I believe that we, as a company, have something worth saying about how to run a successful business without giving up what you really believe in . It’s not an ordinary business book. It is not just about my life, either. The message is that to succeed in business you have to be different. Business can be fun, a business can be run with love and it can do good. In business, as in life, I need to enjoy myself, to have a feeling for my family and to feel excited by something unusual. I have always wanted the people who work for “The Body Shop” to feel the same way. Now this book sends these ideas out into the world. Makes them public, I’d like to think there are no limits to our “family”, no limits to what can be done. I find that an exciting thought. I hope you do, too. 66.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this text? A. To tell the reader her life story. B. To tell people how she brought up her children C. To let people know how rich she was. D. To introduce her ideas to the reader. 67. What would someone learn from this text? A. How to make a lot of money. B. How to write a book business. C. What the book is about. D. What
