There was a time when I swim like a rock. This went on till one day when I was fishing with a friend of mine at nearby pond. I slipped into one. Had my friend not come to my rescue, I would have been drowned. Ever since then, I had come to know the importance of learning to swim. Some of our classmates believe we should have classes on weekends because we can make fully use of free time to review the lessons we had learnt. Some others are against the opinion, saying we had better to have a good rest on weekends so that we can work effective during the weekdays. The rest agree with neither of the opinion. They have the view which keeping the balance between work and play are both important for us. They suggest one day of the weekend should used to learn our lessons and during the other day we do something interested or have a rest. 参考答案: The → a            fully  → full              had  → have  删除 to            effective → effectively       opinion → opinions which → that        are →is                   ∧be interested→ interesteing 三、 阅读理解 21. I live in the land of Disney, Hollywood and year - round sun.You may think People ,n such an attractive, fun - filled place are happier than others. If so you have some mistaken ideas about the nature of happiness. Many intelligent people still think fun equals happiness. The truth is that fun and happiness have little or nothing in common.Fun is what we experience during an act.Happiness is what we experience after an act.It is a deep, long-lasting emotion. Going to an amusement park or a ball game, watching a movie or television are fun activities that help us relax, temporally forget our problems and maybe even laugh. But they do not bring happiness, because their positive effects end when the fun ends. I have often thought that if Hollywood stars have a role to play, it is to teach us that happiness has nothing to do with fun. They have constant access to exciting parties, fancy cars, expensive homes, everything that spells "happiness" But in memoir(回忆录) after memoir, they expose Ac unhappiness hidden beneath all their fun: depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, broken marriages and loneliness. Ask a bachelor why he resists marriage even though he finds dating to be less and less satisfying. If he is honest, he will tell you that he is afraid of making a commitment. For commitment is in fact quite painful. The single life is filled with fun, adventure and excitement.Marriage has such moments, but they are not its most distinguishing features. Similarly, couples that choose not to have children are deciding in favor of painless fun over painful happiness. They can dine out whenever they want and sleep as late as they want.Couples with babies are lucky to get a whole night' s sleep.I don't know any parent who would choose the word fun to describe raising children. Understanding and accepting that true happiness has nothing to do with fun is one of the most liberating realizations we can ever come to.It liberates time: now we can devote more hours to activities that can truly increase our happiness. It liberates money: buying that new car or those fancy clothes that will do nothing to increase our happiness now seems pointless. And it frees us from envy: we now understand that all those rich and famous people we were so sure are happy because they are always having so much fun actually may not be happy at all. 63.What is the passage mainly about?          A.Fun and happiness.                                      B.Success and satisfaction.          C.Marriage and commitment.                     D.Entertainment and responsibility. 64.The author probably agrees that ____.          A.fun creates long - lasting satisfaction          B.long - standing fun may lead to happiness          C.fun is short-lived while happiness is long-lasting          D.fun provides enjoyment while pain leads to happiness 65.What does the author think of marriage?          A.It ends in pain.                             B.It means commitment.          C.It affords greater fun.                     D.It leads to raising children. 66.If one gets the real meaning of happiness, he ____.          A.will start a business                           B.won' t place too much value on money          C.will seek for freedom                          D.won't devote himself to his family   参考答案: ACBB 略 22. It hurts to keep secrets. Secrecy (保密) is associated with lower well-being, worse health, and less satisfying relationships. Research has linked secrecy to increased anxiety, depression, symptoms of poor health, and even the more rapid progression of disease. There is a seemingly obvious explanation for these harms: hiding secrets is hard work. You have to watch what you say. New research, however, suggests that the harm of secrets doesn’t really come from the hiding after all. The real problem with keeping a secret is not that you have to hide it, but that you have to live with it, and think about it. To better understand the harms of secrecy, researchers first set out to understand what secrets people keep, and how often they keep them. They found that 97% of people have at least one secret at any given moment, and people have, on average, 13 secrets. Across several studies, researchers asked participants to estimate how frequently they hid their secret during conversations with others, and also how frequently they thought about the secret outside of social interactions. They found that the more frequently people simply thought about their secrets, the lower their well-being. Following up this research, a new paper reveals why thinking about secrets is so harmful. Turning the question around, the consequences of telling secrets are examined. Researchers found that when a person reveals a secret to a third party, it does not reduce how often they have to hide the secret from others who are still kept in the dark. Rather, it reduces how often their mind wanders toward the secret in irrelevant moments. Therefore, if you choose to still keep something secret, talking to another person can make the world of difference. Secrets don’t have to hurt as much as they do. 12. Which is not one of the harms of keeping secrets? A. Being physically sick. B. Mental problems. C. Harmed relationships. D. Hiding somewhere. 13. Why is keeping secrets so harmful? A. Because you must hide them. B. Because you often think about them. C. Because it’s difficult to keep secrets. D. Because you must watch what to say. 14. How can people reduce the harm of keeping secrets? A. By working hard. B. By keeping 13 secrets. C. By thinking about the secrets. D. By telling secrets to a third person. 15. Which is the text probably taken from? A. An advertisement B. A research report C. A biology textbook. D. A travel brochure. 参考答案: 12. D    13. B    14. D    15.
