“很多”、“大量”的英语表达法

“很多”、“大量”的表达法有多种。搞清楚哪些只能跟可数名词，哪些只能跟不可数名词，哪些既可以跟可数词又可以跟不可数名词，以及它们常见的主谓一致（单/复数）及其易混点对我们的学习大有裨益。下面将这些表达法进行归纳总结。
1.a (large) number of / (large) numbers of +可数名词复数。如：
A number of boys are in the next room.很多男孩在隔壁房间。
Large numbers of people are at the meeting from all over the country.
很多人从全国各地来出席会议。
2 . a large/huge amount of / large amounts of +不可数名词。如：
A large amount of money was spent on clothes.大量的钱花在衣服上。
Large amounts of money were spent on the bridge.这座桥花了很多钱。
3. a lot of /lots of +可数名词复数/不可数名词。如：
There is a lot of/lots of milk in the glass.杯子里有很多牛奶。
There are such a lot of /lots of people who have had the same experience.很多人有着同样的经历。
4. A(large)quantity of /(large)quantities of +可数名词复数/不可数名词。如：
There are a large quantity of books in the library.图书馆里有很多书。
There is a quantity of water in the lake.湖里有很多水。
There are large quantities of flowers in the garden..花园里有很多花。
Quantities of food were on the table.餐桌上有很多食物。
5. plenty of +可数名词复数/不可数名词。如：
There are plenty of books on the bookshelf.书架上有很多书。
There is plenty of time.有很多时间。
6. a great/ good deal of +不可数名词。如：
A great deal of money is spent by a large number of young people.大量的钱被很多年轻人花掉了。
7. a world of +不可数名词。如：
There is a world of difference between them..他们之间有很大的不同。
8.an ocean of /oceans of +不可数名词。如：
There is an ocean of sand far away.远处是一望无际的沙漠。
There is still oceans of time.还有大量的时间。
9.a good/great many+可数名词复数。如：
Philip found that there were a good many people already there.菲力普发现已经有很多人在那儿了。
10.many a+可数名词单数。如：
Many a ship has been wrecked on these rocks.不止一只（很多）船在这些岩石上触礁。
11.quite a few/ a good few/not a few/not some+可数名词复数。如：
There are quite a few students absent from the class today.今天很有些学生缺课。
A good few experiments have been made today.今天很做了一些试验。
Not a few/Not some foreigners have taken part in the party.不少外宾参加了晚会。
12.quite a little/no little/not a little / not some+不可数名词。如：
He has got quite a little news.他有很多好消息。
This gave him not a little trouble.这给他带来了许多麻烦。
He took no little pains over the work.他在这工作上花费了很多精力。
He had not some strong tea.他喝了很多浓茶。
13.quite a bit of+不可数名词。如：
Vacation seems to have done me quite a bit of good .假期好象对我有很多好处。
14.many many+可数名词复数；如：
There are many many reasons against it.反对这事有很多很多原因。
15.much much+不可数名词；如：
Tom has much much money.汤姆有很多很多的钱。
16.a pile of /piles of +可数名词复数/不可数名词。如：
There are a pile of books in the library.图书馆里有很多书。
A pile of money is in the bag .很多钱在袋子里。
There are piles of papers on the desk..课桌上有很多试卷。
Piles of work remains to be done .大量的工作有待于去做。
17.a good/large supply of +可数名词复数/不可数名词；supplies of+可数名词/不可数名词。如：
There are a supply of candles in the drawer.抽屉里有很多腊烛。
There is a good supply of fat in the pig.猪的身上有很多脂肪。
There is a good supply of meat/fish/fruit on the market.市场上有很多肉/鱼/水果。
18.a flood of+可数名词复数/不可数名词。如：
I received a flood of letters this morning. 我今天早上收到了很多信件。
A flood of water has poured from the roof. 大雨从屋顶上倾盆而下。
19.a troop of/troops of+可数名词复数（也可用单数）。如：
A troop of schoolchildren are dancing now.很多（一群）小学生正在跳舞。
Troops of welcomers have surrounded the hero.许多欢迎者已围住了英雄。
20.a mass of/masses of +可数名词复数/不可数名词。如：
a great mass of data 大量数据
a mass of sand 一堆沙
21.a great /wide/considerable variety of+可数名词复数/不可数名词；varieties of +可数名词复数/不可数名词。如：
A great variety of books were recently published.最后出版了很多(种)书/各种各样的书。
There was a considerable variety of opinion.当时有各种各样(大量的)意见。
There are varieties of cloth in the shop.店里有很多个品种的布匹。
22.a wide range of+可数名词复数/不可数名词。如：
A wide range of washing-machines and refrigerators is displayed in our showroom.在我们的展览厅陈列着很多(一大排)洗衣机和电冰箱。
23.a series of+ 可数名词复数。如：
A series of debates between the lecturers was scheduled for the next weekend.演讲者之间的很多讨论安排在随后的周末。

24. a flock of+可数名词。如：
A flock of customers are waiting for the store to open.一大群（很多）顾客在等着商店开门。
