Mr.Lin: Jim, your idea really helped us a lot! Jim: Thank you. This program is working really well. Mr.Lin: Yes. You are a great programmer, I think. 如果说“I think you are a great programmer.”,那吉姆就不会垂头丧气了!这时省略“I think”,而直接说“You are a great programmer!”,反而更能正确表达。 或''sorry to hear it.'' 16. "Boys and girls," he said, "suppose I stood on the roof of a ten-story building, lost my balance and fell off. Then all of a sudden in midair, a whirlwind swept me up and brought me safely to the ground. Now what word would you use to describe this?" After a long silence a boy raised his hand and said, "Luck?" "True, ture," replied the minister. "It could be luck - but that's not the word I wanted. I'll repeat the story. There I am on top of the ten-story building again, and I fall. A whirlwind catches me in midair and places me safely on the ground. Think now - what word would describe the situation?" "Accident," cried out one girl. "No, no," answered the minister. "Listen carefully for the third time. I'm on the same building; I fall and am swept to safety by a sudden whirlwind. What word could account for my safely reaching the ground?" The boys and girls shouted in unison:"Practice!" 情景对话 参考译文 ※ From the Airport to the Hotel (从机场到宾馆) [Part 1] A: My name is Jintian-Chao. Here's my card. B: I'll give you mine, too. A: The company car is waiting outside. Shall we go? B: OK. Is it going to be very far ? A: No, we'll get to the office right away. (On opening a car door) Please sit in the back seat. B: Thank you. [Part 2] A: (In the car) It's very warm, isn't it ? B: It sure is. How's business recently ? A: A little slow, I'm afraid, but we expect things to pick up soon. B: That sounds encouraging. A: How long will you be in Kun Shan? B: My schedule is rather tight. I have to leave for Hong Kong on Thursday. A: We'll have to hurry, in that case. [Part 3] A: Here's your hotel. Let me help you with the formalities at the front desk. B: You are very kind. A: (In a hotel room) I think you'd like to unpack and freshen up. B: Yes. Just give me a minute to take a shower and change my clothes. A: Take your time. I'll be back around 6. B: OK. I'll be ready by that time. 精品文摘 参考译文 ※ What is Your Recovery Rate? What is your recovery rate? How long does it take you to recover from actions and behaviors that upset you? Minutes? Hours? Days? Weeks? The longer it takes you to recover, the more influence that incident has on your actions, and the less able you are to perform to your personal best. In a nutshell, the longer it takes you to recover, the weaker you are and the poorer your performance. You are well aware that you need to exercise to keep the body fit and, no doubt, accept that a reasonable measure of health is the speed in which your heart and respiratory system recovers after exercise. Likewise the faster you let go of an issue that upsets you, the faster you return to an equilibrium, the healthier you will be. The best example of this behavior is found with professional sports people. They know that the faster they can forget an incident or missd opportunity and get on with the game, the better their performance. In fact, most measure the time it takes them to overcome and forget an incident in a game and most reckon a recovery rate of 30 seconds is too long! Imagine yourself to be an actor in a play on the stage. Your aim is to play your part to the best of your ability. You have been given a script and at the end of each sentence is a ful stop. Each time you get to the end of the sentence you start a new one and although the next sentence is related to the last it is not affected by it. Your job is to deliver each sentence to the best of your ability. Don’t live your life in the past! Learn to live in the present, to overcome the past. Stop the past from influencing your daily life. Don’t allow thoughts of the past to reduce your personal best. Stop the past from interfering with your life. Learn to recover quickly. Remember: Rome wasn’t built in a day. Reflect on your recovery rate each day. Every day before you go to bed, look at your progress. Don’t lie in bed saying to you, '' I did that wrong.'','' should have done better there.'' No. look at your day and note when you made an effort to place a full stop after an incident. This is a success. You are taking control of your life. Remember this is a step by step process. This is not a make-over. You are undertaking real change here. Your aim: reduce the time spent in recovery. The way forward? Live in the present. Not in the precedent. Visitor: How could I go to Puxi Site after my travel in Pudong Site?
