1a:
(Steve and his art teacher,Miss Yang ,are visiting the National
Art Museum of China)

Steve: Who was Gu Kaizhi,Miss Yang? I really like his painting of Luoshenfu.

Miss Yang:He was a Chinese painter.He was very good at painting figures.
And the landscapes in his works also look attractive.
Steve: Oh,I see.Look!Here is one of my favorite paintings,Sunflowers.It was
painted by Vincent van Gogh, who was a Dutch painter.Accroding to the introduction of the painting, Vincent van Gogh's works usually express strong feelings.

Miss Yang:That's right.Vincent van Gogh's paintings are very lively with bright
colors. He used color to tell people how he felt. The way he showed things
in the distance is different from the way Gu Kaizhi did.
Steve: Wow!They are great paintings! I have made up my mind to be a painter.
Miss Yang:I'm glad that you want to be an artist.It's possible for you to succeed if you work hard.

Michael: Kangkang, who is your favorite character in literature?
Kangkang: The Monkey King is my favorite character in Chinese literature.
He is a hero in the novel called Journey to the West, which is
one of the classic novels of Chinese literature.
Michael: Oh,but I like Harry Potter better. I think he is the bravest character I've
ever known.
Kangkang: May be you are right, but I prefer the Monkey King. He is funny and clever.
Jane: They are certainly heroes.And i think friends r helpful in both stories.
In order to help Harry,his friends read many books and discovered the
best way to defeat their enemies.
Kangkang: Yes, his friends r wise and helpful just like Sandy and Pigsy.In fact,
it was Sandy and Pigsy who helped the Monkey King win every battle.
In my view ,neither the Monkey King nor Harry Potter would become a hero without the help of their friends.
Jane: That's ture!One tree can't make a forest.

Have you ever wondered why you like heroes better than other characters in
the novels that you read?
Harry Potter has magical powers.For example, he can fly, He is not only brave but also handsome and kind.He wants to protect his friends from danger,The Monkey King is another brave hero.But we like him for different reasons.The Monkey king is very clever and funny.Sometimes we can't help laughing, beacause of his funny behavior.The Monkey King can fly,too.And he is good at hiding. He hides by turning himself into a small living thing such as a bee or a fly.Harry Potter and the Monkey King are different kinds of heroes.But they r both brave and clever.Perhaps that is the reason why we admire them.
What can we learn from these heroes?Let's think about it.

Section C:

Sand and Stone
Two friends kept on walking through the desert.During the journey they had an argument,and the taller boy slapped the shorter one in the face .the shorter boy was hurt.But without saying anything,he wrote in the sand,”Today my best friend slapped me in the face.”
They kept on walking till they found a pond,And they decided to take a bath there.But the shorter boy got stuck in the mud and started to sink.he cried,”Help!Help!”Luckily,he was pulled to safety by his friend.After that,he carve on a stone,”Today my best friend saved my life.
The taller boy asked him,”After I hurt you,you wrote it in the sand,but now you carve it on the stone.Why?”
The shorter boy replied,”When someone hurts you,you should write it in the sand from which the wind can erase it easily.However,when someone does something good for you,you should carve it on a stone from which the wind can never erase it.”

Section D:
The Tortoise and the Hare
(Adapted from an Aesop’s fable)
ACT I
(T= Tortoise H= Hare)
SCENE 1
(In the forest,the hare meets the tortoise.)
H:Hi!I’m Hare.I can run really,really fast,like this!( Hop. Hop. Hop. Hop.)
T:Hi !I’m Tortoise.Ican walk like this.( Plod. Plod. Plod. Plod.)
H:Ha!I can run much faster than you.No one can beat me.
T:That maay be true..But I always get where I’m going sooner or later.As for you ,you never keep your mind on your goals.You can’t get where you need to go.
H:Well then,I bet I can beat you in a race unless you put wheels on your feet.I can even dance around you all the way.I’ll prove it.
T:Tell you what,Hare.We’ll just see who is the first to get to the finish line over there.
H:Okay.Ready?Go!Hee hee hee hee!Silly old tortoise!He thinks he can beat me.
SCENE 2
(On the way,the hare runs,jumps and rolls in the flowers.The tortoise moves slowy forward,always looking to the front,never to the left,and never to the right.)
T: ( Plod. Plod.)How tired!But I can’t give up.I must stick to going ahead. ( Plod. Plod.)
H: ( Hop. Hop. Hop. Hop.)Hi,Tortoise!Here I come…and there I go! ( Hop. Hop. Hop. Hop.)Wow!What beautiful flowers!
SCENE 3
(Under a tall tree.Here comes the hare.)
H:Ha!I can see the finish line from here.Poor tortoise, where is he?Aha!There he is! He is far behind me! I knew it!Mmm,it’s so hot!Here’s a tall tree.I’ll just lie down and have a rest.I’ve got plenty of time.The tortoise will never catch up with me.
(After a few hours,the tortoise passes the hare and continues slowly,always looking to the front,never to the left,and never to the right.)
T:Sweet dreams,you silly hare! ( Plod. Plod.)Almost there,almost there.
(The tortoise has passed the finish line when the hare wakes up.)
H:Wow!I was having such a good ,dream.Now,I wonder where that tortoise…oh,no!
