You may be wondering why your teen would even need to brag. After all, she has aunts, uncles, other family members, friends and, of course, you, quickly singing her praises. But Peggy Klaus, communication and leadership coach and author of Brag! The Art Of Tooting Your Own Horn Without Blowing It, says as kids get older it becomes increasingly important for them to be able to talk about themselves. As teens get closer to college life and the working world, knowing how to selfpromote(自我推销) can make the road much easier. It can help when they're applying for colleges, financial aid, jobs or even when they're aiming to become a part of different social groups. It can also help to boost your teen's selfesteem and confidence. Klaus says “being able to reflect on what it is that you can do well and being able to talk about it is really important in terms of improving selfesteem.” Before you can even try to get your teen to brag, you must first get rid of your own negative(消极的) attitude about bragging. According to Klaus, the new meaning of “brag” is to talk about your best self with pride and passion to excite admiration, interest and wonder—without being rude. Before you can teach your teen how to brag effectively, you've got to first make sure that you know how to do it. “Some of ways parents can practice their own bragging techniques are by creating little stories where they talk about perhaps what it is they do, and mention something that they're proud of in terms of their job, volunteer work or raising a family,” says Klaus. 1.Peggy Klaus thinks teens brag because________. A.no one sings the praises of them B.life is becoming difficult for them C.they can improve their selfesteem D.they want to be accepted by others 2.When a teen is applying for a college, he'd better________. A.give a long talk about his best self B.talk about himself with pride and passion C.talk about himself in a realistic manner D.tell some interesting stories about himself 3.How can parents teach their teens to brag effectively? A.By making up stories about their success. B.By telling teens what Peggy Klaus says in his book. C.By encouraging teens to create little stories about themselves. D.By telling stories about what makes them proud. 4.The last paragraph is to tell us________. A.the new meaning of bragging B.the importance of bragging about ourselves C.how to teach teens to brag effectively D.what is the right attitude towards bragging 5.What is the author's attitude towards teens' bragging? A.Negative. B.Positive. C.Doubtful. D.Critical. Ⅳ.任务型阅读 There are many things you can do to keep friendship strong forever. Trust is very important in keeping any relationship strong and long lasting. If you trust the person whom you have a good relationship with and the other person also trust you in the same way, then you two have a good relationship. You can remember important dates of your friends such as their birthdays and wish them or give gifts to them on these special days. Many people say that money is the most important thing to consider, but remember friendship is not about money. You can find something small and inexpensive for their gifts or send online cards. A friend should also always help others even when it is not very convenient. So have a helping hand ready at all times. Sometimes distance makes relationships even closer. So, if you are far from your friends, there are many ways you can remain in contact(联系). You can use emails, chat programs, and you can also write a blog and share your daily life activities with your friends. If there is anything that makes you happy, share it with your friends. Listen to their thoughts as well. If they have achieved something noticeable, congratulate them and celebrate with them. I have seen good friendships and when there is unhealthy competition between two friends. Though this may not happen in many cases, it is better to keep this idea in mind since it may happen to you. As far as I have seen and experienced, it will be better not to either lend money to or borrow money from your good friends. Of course, we have to do this with friends sometimes. But, attention should be paid so that your friendship may not end.
