Who's the most popular cartoon character in China now? It might be Peppa, a little pink pig from the British cartoon Peppa Pig. It has been on TV in 40 languages in more than 180 countries. The cartoon is for young children, but adults are its fans as well. This cartoon has been so popular that its theme park named Peppa World opened in , in the UK. Two more parks, have opened in Italy and Germany. There, tourists can visit Peppa's house and school; they can also ride a train, a hot air balloon, or a boat, just as Peppa's family do on the show. Li Shizhen was a Chinese medical scientist in Ming period. He was born 500 years ago, on July 3rd, 1518. Li's grandfather and father hoped he could get a government position, but he failed the national exam three times. Then he turned to medicine. At the age of 38, he cured the son of the prince of Chu, and became official in the prince palace. After a few years, he got a government position in Beijing. But a year later, he returned to being a doctor. In his government position, Li read lots of medical books, and found many mistakes in some of them. This gave him the idea of writing a book, providing correct and clear information on medicine. He then spent 27 years writing his world-famous scientific book, Ben Cao Gang Mu. The book introduced more than 1800 Chinese medical plants. It also described the type, form, taste, nature and use of 1094 of them. It has been the most important work of Chinese traditional medicine in history.
