Something heart-wariming happened at a middle school in Dallas, last December.
The Billy Earl Dade Middle School ran into difficulties when it was preparing for its annual (每年的) “Breakfast with Dads” event. About 150 students decided to take part in the event. However, not every student had a father or a male(男性) family member who could come. To solve the problem, school teachers tried to find 50 male volunteers to be with those students during the event.
The their great surprise, nearly 600 men came on the day of the event. There were so many people that the teachers had to move the event from the school dinning hall to the gym. Students were happy and excited when they saw so many “dads” because none of them had to take part in the event alone.
During the event, the “son” and the “dad” had breakfast and played games together. The “sons” told their “dads” interesting stories about what had happened at school and the “dads” listened to their “sons” carefully and give advice when necessary. The “dads” also taught their “sons” how to tie a necktie(领带); it is usually a real father’s job.
Although the event lasted only about on hour, it had a great influence both on the grown-ups and the children. On volunteer wrote online that words could hardly describe this unusual experience. For the students, they inspired(鼓舞)when they saw so many kind people care for them besides their teachers or family members.

About one month ago, I finished an exchange program in the United States. We went to Dover-Sherborn High School to study. After the trip, I had a better understanding of American education.
The school was big and many students there were really friendly. As native speakers, they speak English perfectly, but sometimes I couldn’t keep up with them. So why do US students speak so fast?
I guess the reasons lie in their pace(速度)of life. For example, they only have three minutes to rest between classes, and 24 minutes for lunch. I asked a student why they lived this fast way of life, but he had no complaints(抱怨) about it. I wanted to know more.
Another answer really surprised me, however, “Our life here is just like riding a bike. If you want to keep balance and go on, you must be very fast, or you’ll fall down.”
___________________________, US students also take time to relax. Half of their time is taken up by sports. Besides basketball, football and hockey are also very popular in the US. Students have to choose at least one sport to play, or they might lose the chance to go to university. Sometimes, sports are more important than study. They also have some creative ideas on English learning. Reading fiction in classes may be strange to us, but it’s a popular way to learn English there.

In the past, getting recipes(食谱) and cooking tips wasn’t easy. A person had to go to the sore and buy a cook book, or get recipes from friends. Luckily, the Internet has changed all that. Now, if you want to find a recipe for peach cobbler, you just search online. It couldn’t be simpler.
Cooking blogs are a large number of information because they are free and there are so many of them. They’re also nice because they give ll different kinds of ideas. The problem with blogs is that because we don’t know who’s writing them, we need to be careful. When you’re looking at a new blog, you don’t know if the writer knows what he or she is talking about.
Right now, we’d like to introduce two popular cooking blogs. The first is called Smitten Kitchen. This web site is run by a family living in New York City. It focuses on food that doesn’t need many ingredients(材料). If you want to make food that is simple but wonderful, then this is the site for you. It offers hundreds and hundreds of recipes. You’ll be amazed at how many there are.
Wednesday Chef is another great cooking blog. It is run by a writer who lives in Berlin. This blog also offers many recipes, along with recommendations(推荐)for great restaurants in Berlin, and advice for people who want to start their own blogs. Wednesday chef has great pictures of its food, as well as interesting pictures of Berlin. The blog got its name because in the past, newspaper published their food articles on Wednesdays.
There are a lot of cooking blogs on the Internet, and most of them are pretty good. Go online and check some of them out. You might be amazed at how much they can help you make your cooking better.
