Kids around the world love stories about swords, magic, monsters and gods. And when these come on TV screens, they become more attractive.
Journey to the West is a TV series that has kept the company (陪伴) of many generations of Chinese kids. It began on TV in 1986, becoming the first ever fantasy TV show in China.
The original book of Journey to the West is one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature. But more importantly, it’s China’s own fantasy masterpiece, just as The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are to Western people. However, for many Chinese people, it is through the TV series that they got to know the story. As China National Radio notes, the show “for the first time surprised Chinese people by showing them what Sun Wukong (Monkey King), Zhu Bajie and the monsters look like”.

The show not only opens worlds of imagination for Chinese kids, it also helps them find their inner hero or heroine. The Monkey King is such a brave and loyal character. He beats the monsters and helps Tang Seng through 81 difficulties. The great acting of Liu Xiao Ling Tong makes the role seem even more real. Microsoft founder Bill Gates has opened up about being a parent. He thinks that 13 is a suitable age for a child’s first mobile phone.
The 57-year-old father of three children said on the TV show Today that his children Jennifer and Rory were not allowed to use mobile phones until their thirteenth birthdays and his youngest daughter Phoebe was still waiting for one.
“We’ve chosen in our family that it’s 13 where you get a phone,” the very rich father said. “Because of this, my children often returned home from school complaining, ‘All the other kids have it. Steven is in the ninth grade now. He likes doing projects at school. Two years ago，he made a digital programme for the traffic system. After getting the prize, he got the advice from his father: “Do what interests you, and never give up.”

How to Start a good conversation
“Hi，my name is Sara．”“I’m Frank. Nice to meet you．”
Introductions，like the one above，are a great way to begin a good conversation．When you introduce yourself，be confident and comfortable．That will make others comfortable，too．After the introduction，wait a bit．If the other person doesn’t ask a question，you ask one．Starting with a question shows interest in the other person．You could ask “What do you do ?”or “How do you know our host?” But asking something a little different shows you are clearly different．“What did you do last week? ”and “Have you seen any good movies recently? ”are two topics you could ask about．Another good way to start with is “Tell me about yourself．”Most people love talking about themselves．
How to keep a good conversation going
As the other person begins to answer your question，look for the same opinion．If you ask about last weekend，the person could talk about a bike ride they took．When the person finishes his opinions，you could mention an experience that you had with biking．You can then move on to discussing other sports the person may be interested in．
When the other person is talking，be interested in them．Listen carefully to their answers．Don’t look around the room．That gives the other person the message that you are not really interested in them．
If you are answering the question，don’t go on and on．Answer the question and then stop．A good conversation is like a tennis game where the ball goes back and forth．

The Venice Historical Regatta
Every year, on the first Sunday of September, the Historical Regatta takes place in Venice. It has been one of the most important festivals in Venice since 1315. In the beginning, the event was organized to celebrate the return of Catherine Camera, the queen of Cyprus. Today, it is a celebration of joy and friendship.
The Historical Regatta is made up of two parts: a parade and a rowing boat competition. The celebration starts with a parade of boats on water. The boats in the parade are colourful, and many of them have golden painting on both sides. People on these ancient-style boats wear clothes from the sixteenth century.
After the parade, there is a competition on the Grand Canal. It is watched by thousands of people. The Regatta is the most important event for every rower. For them, winning on that day means to become part of the history of this sport and of Venice. So rowers all over Venice look forward to joining in and winning this competition. Traditionally, the 1st place winner was awarded a red flag, while the 2nd, 3 rd and 4th place winners received white, green and blue flags. Some other awards were given along with the flags. One of them was a little living pig. But since some animal protection organizations object to this, the pig award has been cancelled.
When the Regatta is finished, the city is full of people celebrating among all the noise. There are exciting performances in the important squares of Venice.
