Fathers and mothers frequently teach their children both ambition and the confidence necessary to work toward their goals. American parents are always active in concentrating on what their kids can do, not what they can’t. As a result, millions of American boys and girls grow up hoping to become actors and athletes, diplomats and doctors. Many of them even want to become president. American parents often encourage their children to become involved in extra activities of all types at school, such as student government, sports and music. They believe that only through taking part in these activities can their children become mature young adults. As we all know, school work is important. But parents should realize that the social skills their children learn from natural conversations with each other are as important as schoolwork and the skills they will need in the future work. What’s more important in their work is that their children should have a sound knowledge of physics or the ability to communicate effectively. As a rule, Chinese parents don’t educate their children about the same kind of ambition and confidence as Americans do, nor do they encourage the same level of participation in extra activities. Children are typically advised to study hard and pass exams. They have to spend a lot of time in doing much schoolwork every day. It is a great waste of time to do so. Now more and more Chinese parents have recognized that they should pay attention to developing the potential of their children. I hope that leaders in Chinese educational circles should take some measures to develop the potential of their children. I am very confident about it. 1、From the passage, we know the American parents pay much more attention to . A.the social skills than Chinese parents B.their children’s studying hard and well C.what their children want but they can’t D.extra activities than schoolwork 2、According to the passage, Chinese parents . A.know more than American parents to educate their children B.owning ambition and confidence is necessary and important C.pay much more attention to their children’s fine future D.don’t encourage their children to participate in extra activities 3、From the passage, we can infer . A.American children are brave and adventurous B.American children are more active in their studies C.Chinese children have the ability to communicate effectively D.something should be done to develop the potential of the children in China 4、What’s the writer’s attitude towards Chinese education reform? A.Neutral. B.Indifferent. C.Positive. D.Negative. B To fight for the conservation of forest ecosystem, several ecologists including Daniel Janzen convinced Del Oro, an orange juice producer, to donate part of their forestland to a national park. In return, Del Oro was allowed to throw large amounts of waste in the form of orange peels (皮) on a 3-hectare piece of land within the national park at no cost. Dealing with tons of leftover peels usually involved burning them or paying to have them poured into a landfill, so the proposal was very attractive. But a year later, another juice company challenged the deal in court, arguing that their competitor was “polluting a national park.” They ended up winning, and the deal between Del Oro and the national park fell through. Then in 2013, while discussing possible research avenues with Timothy Treuer, Daniel Janzen mentioned the orange story. Feeling interested, Treuer decided to stop by that piece of land that had been covered with fruit waste 15 years earlier. What he found shocked him. “While I would walk over exposed rock and dead grass in the nearby fields, I’d have to climb through undergrowth and cut paths through walls of vines(藤) in the orange peel site itself, “said Timothy Treuer. Treuer and his team spent months picking up samples (样品), analyzing and comparing them. They found great differences between the areas covered with orange peels and those that were not. The area with orange waste had richer soil. The effect that the orange peels had on the land is probably not that surprising to people familiar with composting (施肥), but what is really shocking is that a judge actually thought the waste of orange mined a national park and slopped it from going forward. Now that Timothy Treuers study has received worldwide attention, this type of ruining is being seriously considered as a way of bringing forests back to life. 1、Why could Del Oro throw orange peels within the national park? A.He rented a 3-hectare piece of land in the national park. B.He gave part of their forestland to the national park. C.The national park wanted to make the soil richer. D.He came to an agreement with the national park by paying some money. 2、When was the deal between Del Oro and the national park made? A.In 1998. B.In 1999. C.In 2012. D.In 2013. 3、What made Treuer shocked? A.The orange story Daniel Janzen mentioned. B.The deal between Del Oro and the national park. C.The pollution of orange peels to the national park. D.The effect that the orange peels had on the land. 4、What’s the authors attitude to the judge mentioned in the last paragraph? A.Positive. B.Worried. C.Admirable. D.Disapproving. 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节)第一节(每小题1分,满分20分)阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项. Research shows that when we are absorbed in an activity, even minor distractions (分心) can have a huge effect. According to a study, regaining our 1 drive following an interruption can take about 20 minutes. Multitasking (多任务), as many studies have shown, is a myth (谬论). A more accurate 2 of what happens when we tell ourselves we are multitasking is that we’re rapidly 3 between activities, sucking our mental energy. And the 4 can be surprisingly serious. Our strategy is to change the 10 to move temptation further away: shut down your email program or 11 your phone. It’s a lot easier to stay on task when you’re not 12 fighting off mental desires. The alternative, which most of us consider common, is 13 to dieting in a bakery. We all need the willpower to resist the temptations, but doing so comes with 14 costs to our limited supply of willpower. Another worthwhile 15 is to collect similar activities together, keeping transition (转换) time to a 16 point. Instead of spreading phone calls, meetings and emails throughout your day, try 17 related tasks so that there are fewer transitions. In some jobs, multitasking is 18 . Some of us truly do need to stay 19 to our clients, colleagues and managers. So it's worth noting that limiting disruptions is the only solution. Remember the more you do to minimize task-switching over the course of the day, the more ability you’ll have for activities that actually 20 .
