1. Students work individually to read the passage quickly and try to answer the following questions.

3. It’s an agreement between towns or cities of similar size and age, and which have similar features such as tourism, industry, culture and entertainment.
这是一个城镇之间的协议, 这些城镇在大小及年龄上相像, 在诸如旅游业, 工业, 文化及消遣方面都有类似的特征。
1) between towns or cities用以修饰agreement。而of similar size and age则修饰towns or cities, 表示“大小, 年龄相像的……”; and which have similar features是由which引导的定语从句, 用以修饰towns or cities, 表示“有相像特征的……”。
2)which引导的定语从句的谓语动词形式应依据前面的主语towns or cities来推断, 该句的towns or cities为复数, 因此用have。
3)tourism表示“旅游业”。-ism 是名词后缀, 又如: social adj. 社会的　socialism n. 社会主义

3. Discussion
Divide students into several groups and make them discuss the following questions:

→ Step 3 Task: Writing an advertisement for your hometown
1. You may first elicit some features and note them on the blackboard to help weaker students.
2. Pair students and have them discuss and make notes of the features of their hometown.
3. Ask them to choose the features that would be most interesting to visitors and try to decide what the central message of their advertisement is.
4. Provide each pair with a piece of either A3 or A4 paper on which to design their advertisement. You may ask them to decide what pictures they want to use and where they will put them in their advertisements.
5. Write the advertisement and put the pictures in it.
6. Have them display their advertisements. They should then circulate and read the others.
7. After that, they may discuss which ones are the best and why.

repetition, and pronunciation revision, or you may want to give students ten minutes to go through it, ticking the things they are confident they know, putting a question mark next to those things they are not sure of, and a cross next to those they don’t know. In this period first we reviewed the grammar part through doing some multiple choices first, and then we read a passage about town twinning. After that, we learned to produce an advertisement.
Homework: Continue to perfect your advertisement and finish all the workbook exercises.
